Mysticism
Mysticism is the religious belief and practice that seeks a direct, personal, and contemplative union with God. While such contemplation frequently takes the form of a spiritual practice like prayer or meditation, it may also manifest through more "receptive" experiences (e.g., dreams or visions). The core of the mystic's quest is essentially "inward" and is often characterized by an intentional withdrawal from the world (whether temporary or permanent). Generally, Christian mysticism holds that the litmus test of a mystical experience is the fruit of the Spirit that results in the mystic's life.
