Dear Sammy,

Very probably I may procure your admission into orders with a title or without.

1Anglican polity, spelled out in Edmund Gibson's Codex Juris Ecclesiastici Anglicani (1713, 1:168–78), mandated that a candidate for ordination either as a deacon or a priest had to hold a 'title' to a specific position. For example, a person ordained as a deacon might be given the title of curate in a parish where there was a priest willing to work with him. JW may have been hoping to find ordination for Furly that permitted him to itinerate. If so, he was not successful (see JW's letter to Furly, May 3, 1758). Furly was ordained deacon on May 21, 1758 by the Bishop of London and served briefly at Bow Church, Cheapside, moving in Nov. 1758 to be curate in Lakenheath, Suffolk.

It is not strange that any one should stifle the first convictions; neither ought that to discourage you at all. Speak again. Be instant εὐκαίρως, ἀκαίρως ,

2 2 Tim. 4:2 : ' in season, out of season '.

and by-and-by you will see the effect.
