To the Rev. Samuel Furly Yarm
July 7, 1759

Dear Sammy,

168Our Conference at Leeds is to begin on Wednesday, August 1. I hope to see you at it.

1There is no record that Furly attended this or any of the Conferences. While repeatedly courted by JW, he did not become active in the Methodist connexion.
If you are in Yorkshire some days sooner, we shall have more time together. Your present call to Kippax is clear.
2Furly was preparing to move from Lakenheath to Kippax, Yorkshire, still as curate. He would come to know Lady Huntingdon while at Kippax.
When you are called farther, that will be clear also.

What avails all knowledge but that which ministers to the knowledge of Christ, and which qualifies us for saving our own souls and the souls of them that hear us? What knowledge you have of other things retain, but secure this in all and above all. I am, with love to Nancy, dear Sammy,

Yours affectionately,
J. Wesley
