To Richard Tompson
London
August 22, 1759
Your affectionate brother,
J. Wesley
August 22, 1759
I am afraid you would hardly save yourself harmless, by the publication of those letters.
1Tompson included this letter in the preface to his publication of the
interchange of letters between him and JW in 1755–56.
However, if
you are inclined to run the hazard, I do not object. Only it would be needful to
advertise the readers, that what I wrote was in haste, just as I could snatch a little
time now and then, to answer the private letter of a private friend, without any thought
of its going any farther.
I am,Your affectionate brother,
J. Wesley
