1The manuscript is possibly abbreviating the name I'Anson. Thomas and Bryan I'Anson, brothers who shared a legal practice in Westminster and often assisted the Wesley brothers (see 21:308, n. 73 in this edn.), are possible recipients, though it is not clear they would be in Bristol.

181I return you thanks for transmitting that letter to me. I am glad our little service was so well accepted.

2I.e., assistance in providing winter clothing for French prisoners held in Knowle, described in the letters of Oct. 20 and Nov. 4 above.

If I should see Bristol again before those poor men return home, I would use what interest I have in order to assist them a little farther. I am, sir,
