Haughton, Rev. John (d. 1781)
Haughton, a weaver in Chinley End, Derbyshire, became one of JW's early traveling preachers, mentioned as a special Assistant in Yorkshire in 1746. He went to Ireland with CW in 1747, and spent the remainder of his ministry there. In 1755 he is listed as a Methodist local preacher in Dublin. In 1759 he secured episcopal ordination from the Bishop of Derry ( William Barnard), and appointment as rector of Kilrea, Londonderry, where he 'cordially received' JW in 1778. See Atmore, Memorial, 202.
